Import your LinkedIn connections

Your LinkedIn connections become People in LifeLong in about ten minutes, most of it spent waiting for LinkedIn to build the file. Nothing is posted, messaged, or changed on LinkedIn.

Last updated September 2026.

What you get

First name, last name, profile URL, company, position, and the date you connected. Email is in the file only for connections who allow it, which is a minority of them. Messages, posts, and profile photos are not included in this export and LifeLong does not ask for them.

Export from LinkedIn

  1. Open your profile menu (top right) and choose Settings & Privacy.
  2. Go to Data privacy, then Get a copy of your data.
  3. Choose Want something in particular, tick Connections, then click Request archive.
  4. Confirm your password. LinkedIn emails a download link, usually within ten minutes.
  5. Download the archive and unzip it.

The file you end up with

Connections.csv, with the columns First Name, Last Name, URL, Email Address, Company, Position, and Connected On. LinkedIn puts a few notes above the header row. Leave them there. LifeLong looks past them for the real headers, so upload the file exactly as it came out of the zip.

What LifeLong does with it

Every row becomes a Person. Matching runs on profile URL first, then email, then name, so re-importing a bigger export later fills in detail on people you already have instead of duplicating them.

Imported People arrive with no encounters yet, so they sit in the No encounters band on your Network map until you meet one or write down what you already remember. They queue in Roll Call, where you decide who matters at your own pace, and Backstory Blitz helps you put the story back on the ones you keep.
